Using the example of DKB's internet banking migration, we will demonstrate how complex challenges in connecting distributed systems to the AWS cloud were successfully solved. The focus will be on scenarios such as access from the FITS network to RDS instances in non-routable subnets, requirements for fixed IP addresses, DNS restrictions, and handling RDS failover. The presentation highlights the architectural decisions made, interim solutions used, and the gradual transition to a long-term sustainable, scalable, and highly available connectivity architecture in a regulated banking environment.
